It could be argued the Toronto Raptors are the best team in the East over the last decade, as they have secured 448 wins in the last 10 seasons, including their 17 this year. It’s a regular-season record amassed on the strength of continuity in philosophy about playing the game and acquiring, securing, and developing a good core of young talent.

Further, the heart and soul of the team, Kyle Lowry, has been a constant since before the winning began back in 2012. However, even with the coaches like Nick Nurse, good strategy gets lost in translation over time, and players tune out. The second-best defense last season is now 16th best in a league of 30 teams.

Next Thursday, the trade deadline approaches and the Raptors can stand pat or become sellers or buyers. Rumors are swirling about Kyle Lowry getting interest from the Miami Heat in trade talks. He has also sparked speculation by selling his Toronto home while stating he wants to finish his career as a Raptor.

"“I will retire as a Toronto Raptor,” Lowry said on Wednesday. “One-day contract, whatever happens.”"

The Toronto Raptors are in the middle of some uncertain times

Unless that means he retires at this season’s end and signs a one day contract next season, which allows Toronto fans the opportunity to thank him for his services at the Scotia Bank Arena, Kyle Lowry is a free agent this coming off-season and playing too well to have his career end now even if he is 35 years old next week.

The Raptors could use the deadline to address some of the near-fatal flaws in the construction of this roster.
