Toronto Raptors: 4 best free agents to target at small forward
1. Gary Trent Jr.
Doesn’t Trent play shooting guard? Well, considering Toronto is likely going to draft a guard and Nick Nurse going to a smaller, three-guard lineup for large chunks of last season, Trent seeing minutes at the SF spot isn’t crazy.
Trent will be the easiest player for the Raptors to sign at the 3-spot because he played here last season. He is a restricted free agent this year, meaning they can match any offer from other teams. He will most likely stay with the team because of rumors hinting they want to bring him back.
Gary Trent Jr. must remain with the Raptors.
Trent Jr. has been impressive since getting traded to the Toronto Raptors. During the 17 games that he played for the Raptors, he averaged 16.2 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. It looks like that he is benefiting from the trade.
He is technically a shooting guard, but since VanVleet might still be the starting shooting guard plus the additions of the draft pick, it looks like the shooting guard spot is currently full.
And since Trent can also play the small forward position, he will be a good backup to Anunoby. Anunoby will start the game with his defense and Trent Jr. can come off the bench as a spark plug while getting similar stats from last season.
