Matthews’ glory days in Portland and Dallas may be long gone, but his ability to get hot from 3-point range helped two championship contenders in the Bucks and Lakers make it a point to acquire his services. Even though he remains unsigned, Toronto could benefit from having a player like him on the roster.

Matthews has made at least 36% of his 3-point attempts in all but one season. While he may not be a tremendous defender at this point in his career, he could serve as a relatively quick and easy fix to Toronto’s lack of consistent perimeter shooting.

Toronto Raptors free agency: Wesley Matthews would be a fine shooter.

Matthews may choose to be a bit pickier and wait until some contenders come calling, but Toronto may be able to guarantee him some instant minutes. The bench is lacking a true knockdown shooter with a higher ceiling than a cheaper free agent in Svi Mykhailiuk, and that could help the wily vet slither into the lineup.

Matthews may have seen his percentages dip slightly last year, but if he gets hot from deep, any team could benefit from having him around. Like the prior two veterans, he won’t completely fix all of their issues, but he should be a nice little pick-me-up for this team.
