Dalano Banton
The Raptors took the Rexdale native and Nebraska switchblade in the second round with the expectation that he would be rooted to the end of the bench while working on his offensive game in Mississauga. Instead, Banton has become a consistent role player and backup point guard for this team.
Banton is averaging 4.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game as a rookie. Alongside fellow rookies like Herb Jones, Ayo Dosunmu, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Banton is one of only a handful of second-round picks that has emerged as a legit rotation player.
Dalano Banton is giving the Toronto Raptors tons of value.
Banton’s offensive game might not blow the doors off of anyone just yet, but there are signs of the type of player he may eventually become. Banton’s ability to get to the rim and run the floor bode well for the future, though he needs to become a slightly more willing and consistent shooter.
The Raptors might not be able to count on Banton for a ton of points every night given where he is at in his development. While that is clearly stretching an already thin bench to breaking point, his ability to defend and run the floor will be enough to continue feeding him minutes.
