2. Gary Trent Jr. ($16 million)

Coming into the season, Trent was thought of as a solid scorer and above-average shooter that graded out as one of the worst defenders in the game. Just a few months after his trade to Toronto, Trent has completed his metamorphosis into one of the more intriguing two-way guards in the game.

Trent is averaging 17.0 points per game while taking some steps forward as far as his efficiency is concerned. What is more impressive is the fact he’s become a fantastic defender, averaging 2.0 steals per game while ranking near the top of the league in deflections.

Gary Trent Jr. is rewarding the Toronto Raptors.

Trent signed a three-year contract worth just over $51 million this offseason. While players like Evan Fournier and Tim Hardaway Jr. struggle to show they are worth the same outrageous contracts that they earned this offseason, Trent’s $16 million cap hit this year is looking like a pretty savvy deal at the moment.

Trent is younger than Malachi Flynn, meaning that we still haven’t seen the best of him in Toronto. Should he continue to provide scoring in both isolation and catch-and-shoot situations for a team that needs offensive creativity, Trent will make that three-year deal look like a bargain.
