3 reasons the Raptors should stand pat at the trade deadline
By Jason Mills
1. The team is finally healthy
The Raptors may be the healthiest they have been all season long. A recent epidemic of players around the league entering health and safety protocols did not spare the Raptors. However, the team appears mostly healthy and ready to compete.
It is also remarkable to note that the Raptors “Big 3” of Fred VanVleet, OG Anunoby, and Pascal Siakam have only played in six games together. VanVleet is making an All-Star charge, Anunoby is his usual standout self, and Siakam is averaging 20 points per game again.
It is also worthy to note that in his last four games, Siakam has grabbed 50 rebounds for a frontcourt that has struggled in this category all season long. It has earned him a new nickname.
"“Grabbing 33 rebounds over the span of 2 games, Pascal Siakam revealed the hilarious nickname he received – “Pascal Rodman”."
The Toronto Raptors are finally healthy.
The Raptors started the season poorly at home, but are 3-1 in their last four home games and 10-10 overall in Toronto. As key players are getting healthier, the Raptors’ consistency is improving. There may not be a reason to tinker with the lineup unless a serious injury occurs.
The Raptors are poised to make a serious run at a secured playoff position. Such a lofty goal should be achievable if the roster remains healthy. What the roster needs now is games and basketball play repetition together to build confidence, chemistry, and consistency.
2022 may be a much more successful year for the Raptors than anyone thought.
