Potential Breakout Role Players

A former Kentucky Wildcat at 22 years old, Ashton Hagans is a 6-3 guard who fits the prototype of a Rajon Rondo.

Well built with great passing vision (second on the team in assists), Hagans’ greatest asset to the 905 so far has been his defense at the point of attack. Averaging a team-best 1.9 steals per game, Hagans’ experience playing for one of basketball’s greatest schools has undoubtedly prepared him for the speed of the minor leagues.

A theme with G Leaguers is the inconsistency from deep. Hagans’ shooting stroke comes and goes from game to game, and while he’s still managed to maintain a strong FG% at 45.8, his shooting from the free-throw line doesn’t imply hidden talent as a sniper.

Will Ashton Hagans or Romero Gill break out for Raptors 905?

One more interesting character from Mississauga is the man in the middle, the massive Romero Gill.  At 7-2 and over 250 pounds, Gill’s intimidation around the rim is just one more cog in the 905’s stellar defense this season.

Since the Raptors have been on the hunt for size inside this season, scouts and executives from the NBA may take a long look at Gill’s ability to help the team in the big city.
