With an abysmal 14-36 record (good for third-worst in the league) and John Wall making a cool $44 million from his couch, it’s clear that the Rockets are looking towards the future and another lottery pick to pair with budding star Jalen Green.

Lost in this chaos is another underrated center in Christian Wood. Since moving over from the Detroit Pistons, Wood has proven that he can be a two-way starter in this league.

This year he’s averaging 17.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.8 threes made per game. He’s a versatile big man that can do it all on the floor. He’s not the greatest rim protector for his size, but he’s passable in that area. He could be a weapon on the offensive end, taking some of the responsibility away from Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes.

He’s currently in the second year of his contract, making $13.6 million this year and $14.3 million next year.

Would Christian Wood help this Toronto Raptors team?

He’s the leading scorer for a Houston team that’s clearly punched their ticket to Tank City. He needs to get out of Houston, and Toronto would be a great destination. He would work perfectly in the pick and roll, crash the boards, and space the floor on offense. These attributes mesh well with Nick Nurse’s schemes.

A recent run-in with coach John Lucas is a clear indicator of his frustration with the locker room and the organization. With Houston looking towards the future and a top-half of the draft loaded with star bigs like Jabari Smith, Paolo Banchero, and Chet Holmgren, now would be a great time for Toronto to ask about his going rate.
