Williams was linked to the Raptors in one of the most stunning rumors we’ve seen crop up all season long. Considering his game-changing ability to block shots and rebounding skills that clearly surpass everyone on the Raptors’ roster not named Pascal Siakam, Williams would fit Toronto’s roster like a glove.

Williams is averaging just under 10 rebounds per game while blocking two shots per contest. Although he offers little value on offense outside of dunking the ball, it could be reasonably argued that the Raptors’ two biggest needs are rim protection and rebounding. Guess who would help in both of those areas?

Toronto Raptors rumors: Robert Williams would be a steal.

Khem Birch is trying his best, but he’s struggled to stay healthy and has fallen to third in the center pecking order behind Achiuwa and Boucher. Birch should not be used as justification for not swinging for the fences, as the 24-year-old Williams could be a foundational piece.

With an extension kicking in soon and Boston making a postseason run as well, Toronto may need to give up multiple picks in addition to a promising player to secure Williams’ services. If the Celtics give him up and the Raptors somehow end up acquiring him, they could assert them as a team capable of winning a playoff series.
