Scottie Barnes
Barnes will lock horns with names like Evan Mobley and Cade Cunningham for the Rookie of the Year award. While Barnes’ scoring has dipped just a tad lately, he’s still helping the Raptors as a rebounder, defender, and passer. It’s hard to ask for much more out of a rookie.
Grade: A-
Toronto Raptors: OG Anunoby has had mixed results.
OG Anunoby
OG is having a fine season, as his scoring has increased and his on-ball defense remains as good as any forward in the East. Unfortunately, his efficiency has taken a step backward, which has allowed Trent to usurp him as the tertiary scoring option. Anunoby can get this grade changed with a strong post-break start.
Grade: B+
Justin Champagnie
The undrafted free agent managed to wiggle his way into the rotation for a brief period on nothing more than some excellent rebounding and hustle. While he has a very long way to go before he becomes a viable NBA scorer, the fact that the coaching staff and fanbase embraced him so quickly is encouraging to see.
Grade: B
Yuta Watanabe
Watanabe went from playing the best offensive ball of his career and earning some starts to falling completely out of the rotation. His offensive growth appears to have stagnated. Yuta still has some potential as a bench player, but he’s also running out of time to prove himself to the Raptors’ front office.
Grade: C
Svi Mykhailuk
Outside of a certain Slovenian veteran who will go unnamed, Mykhailiuk has been the most disappointing player on the roster. He was brought in to be a solid shooter, yet his 30% success rate from deep has helped him get nailed to the end of the bench despite a strong start to the year.
