1. Tyler Johnson
Johnson has bounced around with a few different teams over the last few seasons, with his most recent NBA stint coming in the form of two COVID-19 replacement contracts with the Spurs and 76ers. If Toronto wants some experience behind the injured Fred VanVleet, Johnson could be the man for the job.
Johnson’s days as a double-digit scorer with Miami and Phoenix might be over, but his stint as a backup with the Nets love the last few years shows that he has enough left in his tank to contribute to an NBA rotation. No playoff team in the league needs shooting more than Toronto right now.
Will Tyler Johnson boost the Toronto Raptors?
With VanVleet and Malachi Flynn both banged up, Johnson could be a worthwhile addition to the bench. While forcing players like Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes into the backup point guard role can work for short bursts of time, eating up minutes in that spot nullifies their skillset.
Johnson has proven his worth several times over in this league, but a slight dip in efficiency has helped teams consistently pass him over when they need to add bench talent. Johnson could come right in and provide come solid scoring while the team nurses back to health.
