3 genius adjustments from Nick Nurse that saved Raptors season
By Mike Luciano
2. Giving Malachi Flynn a second chance
Flynn going down with an injury was very disheartening, as he was finally starting to get into a groove on offense. When Flynn was thrown back into the rotation due to some iffy performances from Dalano Banton, he started to look more like the first-round pick that Toronto put so much developmental time and effort into.
Flynn was averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game after the All-Star break before he got hurt. Considering he was playing so poorly he receive a 905 assignment earlier in the season, Flynn looking like the Rookie of the Month we saw last year is a very encouraging sign.
Toronto Raptors: Nick Nurse still believes in Malachi Flynn
With Banton currently unable to buy a bucket and 10-day signing Armoni Brooks the furthest thing from an elite on-ball defender, the former Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year is providing the perfect combination of pick-and-roll skill on offense and pesky defense.
While Toronto could still use their lone draft pick this year on a guard, Flynn has been good enough to the point where he will likely have a rotation role next year. Even when some of the biggest Flynn supporters were starting to sour on him, Nurse believed he could get the job done.
