Scottie Barnes: Rookie of the Year

Barnes appeared to be getting fixed clearly into second place in the ROY race, as Evan Mobley looked like he had the award locked down. With Cleveland and Toronto trending in two different directions since the All-Star break, Barnes has made a concerted charge for that coveted trophy.

Barnes is averaging 18.1 points per game since the All-Star break, as he has adapted perfectly to a lineup that saw OG Anunoby go down with an injury. With Mobley’s so-so second half and Cade Cunningham’s Pistons sliding down the standings, Barnes’ Rookie of the Year momentum has never been stronger.

Scottie Barnes could give the Toronto Raptors another Rookie of the Year.

The Raptors have seen a couple of rookies take home this honor before Barnes, as Vince Carter and Damon Stoudamire have both had this honor bestowed upon them in two of the finest rookie seasons this franchise has ever seen. Barnes is making a very convincing case to be the third.

Barnes has been an impact scorer and versatile defender from the moment he stepped on the court, which is exactly what this Toronto team needed. The Raptors have a keeper for the future, and that should be reflected in the Rookie of the Year voting.
