This has been one unlucky season for the former first-round pick. After losing his rotation spot to Dalano Banton, Flynn started to pick up the pace with a quality second-half surge. After just a handful of weeks, Flynn’s minutes have been ripped from him once again due to an injury.

Armoni Brooks has been so impressive in his brief stint with Toronto that he’s already earned a multi-year contract with a guarantee for next season. There’s no guarantee that Flynn’s spot in the rotation ahead of Brooks will be there when he returns to full health.

Malachi Flynn might not get tons of time for the Toronto Raptors.

Even with Brooks healthy, Nurse decided to go without a point guard in an overtime win against the Celtics. In what looked like a potential playoff rotation preview, Brooks played the same number of minutes as you and I. That doesn’t bode well for Flynn when he returns to action.

Flynn might get a few more chances to prove himself if he returns from his hamstring injury and Fred VanVleet continues to take some games off to manage his workload. Failing that, all of the positive momentum Flynn picked up could be completely eroded.
