1. Bench scorers

Even though Toronto’s defense was great, their offense was questionable. They were 15th in offensive rating at112.1 and 27th in both effective field goal percentage and true shooting percentage. Winning that inefficiently is not a sustainable model.

Toronto’s starting five can get their shots. The bench is a different story. The starting five averaged 36.7 points per game, but the bench averaged 25.7 points per game. The Raptors are last in bench scoring, which is one of the reasons they were unable to capitalize without Embiid in the lineup.

The Toronto Raptors need to invest in their bench.

That second half in Game 6 was absolutely brutal to watch. Shot after shot was bricked. Toronto needs to make sure that doesn’t happen again. This goal can be realized if Ujiri pumps a ton of money to ensure that the squad is deeper in crucial areas.

Ujiri needs to fill the rest of the bench with complementary role players. The way the team is already constructed works well enough. Why change it when you can improve it? If the Raptors can find players who can shoot and finish inside (or just get a full year of Thad Young), Toronto should be set up nicely.

All they have to do is keep the core players, add a bigger center, pick up one more point guard, and fill the rest of the roster with robust bench scorers. Ujiri has done this before, and he can do it again.
