The Toronto Raptors brought in one last running mate for Scottie Barnes and the rest of the lineup, as Juancho Hernangomez was added to the squad thanks to a one-year contract. Fresh off becoming the league’s resident thespian for his role in “Hustle” as Bo Cruz, he’s quickly become a household name.

While his play on the court over the last few years hasn’t matched the hype he received on the silver screen, he can still contribute to a winning NBA team thanks to his sweet shooting stroke. He’ll likely join several other competitors in a very tough fight for one of Toronto’s final roster spots.

Barnes seems excited about getting one of the most well-known remaining NBA free agents in Toronto, even if he isn’t going to be guaranteed much in terms of playing time. Barnes is thrilled that his new teammate is a movie star that will be a help on the court.

Barnes posted an Instagram story that showed how excited he was for Hernangomez to make the trip up north. While his value is at a low right now regarding his stature within the NBA, Barnes and Toronto might end up being a solid spot for Juancho to rejuvenate his career.

Toronto Raptors: Scottie Barnes is excited about Juancho Hernangomez.

Hernangomez has averaged 5.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in around 16 minutes per game during the last three seasons. His 35% career 3-point percentage shows that his true value lies in spacing the floor and connecting from long range, which could help this team.

Hernangomez will be fighting with names like Justin Champagnie and DJ Wilson for one of the final roster spots that Toronto has available. While Champagnie has youth and Wilson has size, Hernangomez has experience and shooting on his side in what should be a very close battle.

Last year saw him bounce between the Spurs, Celtics, and Utah Jazz thanks to some wacky trades. He needs a stable home led by someone who believes in his talent. There’s a chance that Nick Nurse provides that for him in Toronto.

Hernangomez is likely going to be known as Bo Cruz for the rest of his career. While that’s a blessing in some ways, it often overshadows what he brings to the table on the floor. Barnes seems well aware of the fact that Hernangomez can be a nice role player if everything breaks his way.
