Rivals Week vs. Warriors: 1/27

The NBA is experimenting with a “Rivals Week” concept in which the best new rivalries and more historic old ones are renewed in the span of one action-packed week. While as far away from one another as humanly possible geographically, Golden State and Toronto could be a matchup worth watching.

This 2019 Finals matchup didn’t live up to the hype last year. Golden State beat the breaks off the Toronto in San Francisco early in the season. While the Warriors were throttled in Canada, COVID-19 meant that only the reserves at the end of the bench made the trip north.

Will the Toronto Raptors play well against the Warriors?

The Warriors, fresh off winning a championship, will provide as stern a challenge for Toronto as any team. Even though Nick Nurse has typically done a solid job of corraling Steph Curry, trying to hold off Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, and Golden State’s collection of young players is a different story.

The Raptors may have come out on top in 2019, but the Warriors have since reestablished their footing atop the league without Durant. This matchup could help determine how far along Toronto is in matching the Warriors’ skill level on a consistent basis.
