2. Offensive fluctuation

The Raptors’ starting lineup ranks among the most unique in the NBA. While all five starters averaged at least 15 points per game last season, there is reason to believe that the workload and how shots are divided out could be in flux this season. Some of the young guns may be looking to assume more responsibility.

Not only does OG Anunoby want more of an active role on the offensive side, but Toronto needs to make sure that Scottie Barnes increases his volume to push him closer to stardom. Can VanVleet still be as effective if he gives up a handful of shots to players like Anunoby and Barnes?

The Toronto Raptors offense is in flux.

Last year was unique for the Raptors in that they could balance the need to develop young players like Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. without the weight of playoff expectations. Now that Toronto is established as a no-doubt playoff contender, they need to figure out how to win 50 games AND make sure Barnes becomes a game-changer.

While fans should trust that Nurse will eventually figure something out that keeps Toronto among the East’s best, there may be an adjustment period as all the parts try to find the right number of shots. With all but one of their first 11 games against teams who made the playoffs or play-in last year, that’s a rude introduction to 2022.
