The Toronto Raptors have started this season better than most people would have expected from a team blighted by injuries. They are 5-4 and starting to fire on all cylinders. Their last two wins have been dominant ones against the Hawks and Spurs. One of the biggest reasons behind this hot start has been the form of Pascal Siakam.
Coming into the season, Siakam was expected to be the face of the franchise and his performances early on in the campaign have outdone all expectations. The Cameroonian has taken his game to the next level.
Siakam is averaging 24.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc. He is putting up career-high numbers in most areas while registering two triple-doubles and four double-doubles over the first nine games of the season.
It is safe to say that Siakam is in the best form of his life right now. His performances certainly seem to have caught the eye of former Raptors star Vince Carter, who said while speaking about the Cameroonian star on ESPN’s NBA Today.
Toronto Raptors: Vince Carter hypes up Pascal Siakam
Siakam talked about his ambitions of being a top-five player in the league not too long ago, and while his comments might not have been taken seriously by a lot of people then, the Raptors star is showing that he can walk the walk as well. As reported by The Athletic, Siakam had said:
"“It’s time to take another step. I always do that.“And I try every game to take a step up. I think for me, after the year that I had, just accomplishing that level of play — I’ve been All-NBA, I’ve been an All-Star, I wanna be a top-five player in the league. I wanna be one of the best, and I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.”"
On current form, Siakam was looking like he could’ve very well be in MVP contention before his injury threw a wrench into things. If he returns to full health, he can remind the rest of then league why he is such a valued commodity.
Whether he ends up hitting those heights or not, it is safe to say that the Raptors must be delighted with how well he is doing. At 28 years of age, Siakam is entering his prime and starting to show what he is truly capable of.
