Is OG Anunoby playing tonight? Latest injury update for Raptors vs. Suns, January 30
By Mike Luciano
The Toronto Raptors have been beset by injuries in the last few months, which has contributed to their sharp decline in the standings. OG Anunoby avoided the injury bug for a long time, but he just couldn’t stay healthy until the NBA Trade Deadline finally passed.
Anunoby suffered a wrist injury against the Golden State Warriors on Friday, missing Toronto’s dominant win over the Portland Trail Blazers as a result. Anunoby, who is averaging just under 17 points per game while playing amazing defense, is a crushing loss for this team.
The Raptors are currently in the middle of a grueling West Coast road trip that has featured wins against the Kings and Blazers mixed in with that Warriors loss. The Phoenix Suns are up next on the docket, and it looks like OG will not be able to make that game.
Anunoby is officially out for today’s game against Phoenix due to his wrist injury, which could continue to impact him through the remainder of the second half. Dalano Banton is listed as questionable with a hip injury, though the former second-round draft pick’s playing time has essentially dried up.
Toronto Raptors injury update: OG Anunoby out vs. Phoenix.
This macabre refrain is, sadly, all too familiar for Anunoby. The Indiana alum hasn’t played more than 48 games in a season in the last three years, making it difficult for him to get the national prize he deserves for his strong defensive play and shooting.
There is a chance that Anunoby has played his last game with the Raptors, as he is reportedly unhappy with his current status in Toronto and could be one of the assets the club may decide to part ways with if they indeed decide to become sellers at the deadline.
Precious Achiuwa has been on fire lately, recording four double-doubles in his last five games. Expect him to have an expanded offensive role once again while Anunoby nurses himself back to full health. Thad Young may also be in line for some more minutes.
Anunoby may have cooled off a bit after such a tremendous start to the 2022-23 season, but that doesn’t mean he is lacking in value. Even against a beat-up Suns team that has very rarely had all of their best players healthy at once, the Raptors will have their work cut out for them without No. 3 in the lineup.
