3 Raptors who must step up after polarizing Jakob Poeltl trade
By Mike Luciano
2. OG Anunoby
Anunoby could have been moved for multiple first-round picks, but Ujiri chose to hold onto him amid some reports that he is dissatisfied with his role in Toronto and is looking for a better opportunity elsewhere. Fans may not be all-in on OG, but this front office is.
Anunoby is going to be on the shelf for a bit due to his wrist injury, but he will likely return to the starting lineup when healthy as Gary Trent Jr. goes to the bench. That is inherently placing a great deal of responsibility on his shoulders, and he needs to answer it on offense.
OG Anunoby must shoot well for the Toronto Raptors.
Anunoby could help the Raptors out by getting back on track from 3-point range, but finally delivering on his desire to become a bigger offensive threat could be a game-changer. With OG under contract for one more season, Toronto acquired Poeltl with the intention of pairing him with Anunoby and the rest of the squad.
Anunoby’s tremendous defense, which has not eroded one iota despite some problems on the other side of the floor, will be a serious factor in Toronto’s postseason push during this season and the following campaign. Time will tell if he ends up making good on all his unrealized potential.
