The Toronto Raptors shook up their roster just a tad yesterday, as they waived Juancho Hernangomez in order to create space for Will Barton. With the Raptors also having beaten the Chicago Bulls, yesterday was an absolutely terrific day for the much-beleaguered Raptors fanbase.

Eagle-eyed observers watching the Bulls game were quick to notice that Chicago did not have the services of backup guard Goran Dragic. The Slovenian guard has become one of the most reviled players in Raptors history, as his “higher ambitions” quote will live on in infamy forever.

After leaving the Miami Heat by way of the Kyle Lowry trade, Dragic has tried and failed to ring chase. He signed with the Nets last season following his Spurs buyout and joined the Bulls this season with the promise of added playing time. However, Chicago’s poor run of form, they have decided to go in a different direction.

Dragic was waived by the Bulls prior to their game against Toronto, showing that the soon-to-be 37-year-old’s options in the NBA are starting to dwindle at an alarming rate. There is a good chance that Dragic’s NBA journey could be coming to an end relatively soon.

The Chicago Bulls waived former Toronto Raptors guard Goran Dragic.

Dragic was averaging 6.4 points and 2.7 assists per game while making 42% of his shots. While that isn’t terrible backup production, the fact that Chicago decided to roll with Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White despite Lonzo Ball’s season-ending injury is a telling sign.

Both the Raptors and Dragic have sworn until they are blue in the face that their split was more amicable than it seemed and that it stemmed from a desire to play the youngsters behind him, Raptors fans do not seem willing to let that quote or his snarky tweets go.

Dragic played just five games for the Raptors, so he didn’t exactly have a Hall of Fame career during his brief Toronto sabbatical. No one was sad to see him go, though many will be pleased to see Chicago also decide that Dragic is not for them.

While the anti-Dragic narrative has evolved into as much of a funny running joke on Raptors Twitter as it is genuine hatred, there are some fans that are not going to let that quote or lack of performance slide for as long as he is in the NBA. That segment of the fanbase has to be doing cartwheels right now.
