Latest Kyle Lowry injury update stinks for Toronto Raptors fans
By Mike Luciano
Even though the Toronto Raptors picked a good time to part ways with franchise icon Kyle Lowry, trading him to the Miami Heat for a package headlined by Precious Achiuwa, Raptors fans are still rooting for the greatest player in franchise history to succeed in his new spot.
After all, part of the reason that Pat Riley and the head seemed like a good destination for him was the franchise’s ceaseless pursuit of a championship. Adding a veteran point guard to replace Goran Dragic alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo seemed like a winning formula.
However, things have not gone well for Lowry in Miami. On top of the fact that the Heat were trying to figure out ways to get off his contract at the trade deadline, his body is starting to fail him. After defying Father Time for years by playing high-end basketball well into his 30s, Lowry is starting to show his age.
The 36-year-old Lowry has missed the last 12 games with a knee injury, making him persona non grata among frustrated Heat fans. Erik Spoelstra refused to say if Lowry will be back this regular season adding yet another roadblock in what has been a substandard tenure for No. 7.
Raptors fans won’t like Kyle Lowry getting hurt again.
Lowry is averaging just 12.8 points per game during what has become a disastrous Heat stint. This year, he isn’t even making 40% of his shots from the field. With one more guaranteed year left on his contract, Lowry’s contract is quickly becoming an albatross.
While it was certainly tough to see Lowry decline in such a sharp fashion, it shows that Masai Ujiri knew the right time to move off his franchise icon and instead pivot to a younger group spearheaded by Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes. The Precious Achiuwa move has also been very good, all things considered.
Achiuwa has become a double-double threat when given extended minutes that has simultaneously become one of the best on-ball defenders at his position in the Eastern Conference. That is a much better use of a roster spot than Lowry and what is becoming a very regrettable deal made by Riley.

Lowry deserves to have one more shot at a ring in his career, as he has been such a good soldier for the Raptors and basketball in Canada throughout his career, Unfortunately, it looks like his tenure in Miami is starting to be more nightmare than fantasy getaway.
