Raptors draft: 4 prospects to watch during March Madness
By Mike Luciano
3. Colby Jones, Xavier
Another trade-down candidate, Jones has been the main cog on a Musketeers team that ranks as one of the best and most efficient offensive teams in the nation. Even though he is not the best 3-point shooter right now, Jones is a proven bucket-getter at the collegiate level.
Jones has averaged 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Jones is not very highly regarded as an athlete, which could make it a harder sell for Ujiri than most players of his caliber are, but he should also come right in and play well without too much adjustment.
The Toronto Raptors could use a player like Colby Jones.
Jones is a solid defender, confident with the ball in his hand, and able to play multiple positions with ease. A three-year starter for a program that has consistently been one of the best in the conference, Jones won’t need as much time in the developmental sector as most late first-rounders.
Jones seems like an Ujiri pick. He can do anything that is asked of him with a reasonable degree of success, but he still needs to show some improvement going to the basket and shooting from 3-point range. Checking those boxes could make Toronto a standout bench unit.
