2. Cason Wallace, Kentucky

Wallace has been a personal favorite of mine, and other Raptors mock draft prognosticators, even though his performance to end the season was slightly uneven. Wallace may appeal to the Raptors because his two best traits are two things the Raptors need badly.

Wallace has proven to be an expert marksman from 3-point range, giving the 6-4 guard a clear role that he can operate out of as the team’s Sixth Man. His point guard skills are impressive, which could help the Raptors groom him as a potential VanVleet replacement down the line.

The Toronto Raptors may target Cason Wallace.

Wallace’s defense is what will make him even more desirable for those who want a crack at him, as averaging close to two steals per game is in no way an outrageous expectation for a player of his near-elite caliber. His on-ball defense is as good as any point guard in this class.

If VanVleet walks, Wallace could be a larger version with a similar skillset if worked on enough. Considering how Nick Nurse often throws rookies into the fire, Wallace could get some serious playing time as a rookie.
