1. Dariq Whitehead, Duke

Whitehead was in contention for a top-five pick at one point, but he was moved to the bench amid a horribly inefficient start to the season. Whitehead ended up making well over 40% of his 3-pointers to close the season, establishing himself as a star for the Blue Devils.

The No. 2 recruit helped Duke decimate a popular upset pick in Oral Roberts, and he has one of his best games of the season in a matchup with Tennessee in which it looked like many of his Blue Devils teammates were replaced with 40-year-old fans who won raffles and suited up. The 3-and-D promise is still very real.

Toronto Raptors draft: Dariq Whitehead could become a starter.

Whitehead, like Smith, needed just to slow down and play with a bit less wildness in order to become an effective player. On Toronto, Whitehead won’t have to worry about shouldering that level of insane offensive responsibility. He can just defend like an ace and hit 3s when needed.

Whitehead’s potential growth, however, is what could make him a potential Raptors target at some point in the teens. If everything clicks like Toronto thinks it could, they could be looking at someone who may eventually evolve into a leading scorer for this team.
