The contract: Five years, $53 million (2009)

After a successful stint with the Orlando Magic in which he rose to fringe stardom, Hedo Turkoglu agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Raptors during the 2009 offseason.

The hope was that Turkoglu would be a good fit next to Chris Bosh and Andrea Bargnani as the team looked to take a step in the right direction and make a return to the NBA Playoffs. However, that season didn’t exactly go as planned for Turkoglu or the Raptors.

The Raptors didn’t make the playoffs that year and Turkoglu’s short-lived tenure with the Raptors came to somewhat of a strange ending. At the end of May of that season, Turkoglu made it clear that he didn’t want to be back in Toronto.

Hedo Turkoglu was bad for the Toronto Raptors.

After making sort of a trade demand, that would end up being Turkoglu’s only season with the Raptors. Toronto would end up trading Turkoglu to the Phoenix Suns during the summer for Leandro Barbosa and Dwayne Jones.

This franchise haven’t had many gargantuan missteps throughout their young existence in the NBA, but there are certainly a few moves throughout their history that they probably would’ve decided against in retrospect.
