Raptors draft: 1 prospect at every position to target in lottery
By Mike Luciano
Point Guard: Cason Wallace, Kentucky
If the Raptors can only select one player in the NBA Draft at their current place in the order, Wallace might be the player who can help Toronto fix two of their biggest issues in poor shooting and a lack of guard depth. With Fred VanVleet’s status in limbo, the need for Wallace has only increased.
Wallace’s game on the offensive end is more impressive than many of the point guards projected to be drafted in his range. Wallace can get to the rim, make shots from all sorts of unique angles, and flex a passing skill that is much more advanced than the raw assist numbers would indicate.
Can the Toronto Raptors draft Cason Wallace?
Wallace’s defense might be the best part of his skillset as a player, as he can cause more than two steals per game and lock down both guard spots. Nick Nurse might be gone, but Rajakovic and the rest of the coaching staff would likely love to have a point guard who can stymie opposing ball-handlers.
If the Raptors have their eyes set on a bigger point guard without taking Wallace, names like Baylor’s Keyonte George, Michigan’s Kobe Bufkin, and Indiana’s Jalen Hood-Schifino could all suffice. None of them will make as much of an immediate impact as Wallace would.
