Develop: Precious Achiuwa

No player on this Raptors team is as maddening to watch on a game-to-game basis as Achiuwa. Just when it looks like he has finally figured out the finer points of playing in the NBA, and it will all click in his head, he’ll revert to the same irritant he was as a rookie in Miami.

Achiuwa’s defense is almost beyond reproach, as he has proven himself to be a genuine positionless defender who can slow down even experienced players in the paint and on the perimeter. The offense has been part of his game that hasn’t necessarily come along at the same speed.

Precious Achiuwa is a big part of the Toronto Raptors.

Achiuwa’s 3-point skills vary from week to week, as he looks like Dirk Nowitzki one week and Rafael Araujo the next. Achiuwa is a ferocious dunker, but his fast break play is like a kid who ate way too much sugary junk food and is trying to come down off the high.

Achiuwa has too many athletic gifts for the Raptors to bolt on, especially when he has a relatively high floor as an overall player, thanks to his defensive skills. Once the efficiency lessons click, Achiuwa could be a very regular starter in this league.
