In his home country of Spain, Garbajosa was a basketball legend in the early 2000s, racking up trophies like it was his day job. At the tender age of 29 and fresh off of a gold medal at the FIBA World Championship, where he scored a game-high 20 points in the final, Garbajosa finally decided to make the move to the NBA.

His nickname during his short time with the Raptors was “The Garbage Man,” and while you couldn’t call his performance in Toronto during one-plus seasons garbage, it wasn’t as dominant as some hoped.

Jorge Garbajosa could have been much better for the Raptors.

In 2006-07, wearing Vince Carter’s old number 15 jersey, Garbajosa started 60 games and played 28.5 minutes a night but averaged just 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds on 42 percent shooting from the field.

When he broke his leg, the Garbajosa experiment was cut short in March 2007. A few months after being elected for additional surgery, he joined his compatriots on the Spanish Olympic team in 2008 against the Raptors’ wishes, leading the team to buy out the remainder of his contract.

Garbajosa has had a successful post-playing career as the former President of the Spanish Basketball Federation and the current President of FIBA Europe.
