The Toronto Raptors do not have a first-round pick at their disposal in the 2024 NBA Draft, unless they end up within the top six selections. With how names like Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes are on the roster, losing that much might be a bit unrealistic.
The Raptors will likely have to watch their first-round pick slip through their grasp and fall into the ever-growing cupboard of assets the San Antonio Spurs still have under their control. This could lead to a very promising player being ripped away from the Raptors in a heartbreaking fashion, thanks to the Jakob Poeltl trade.
Jonathan Wasserman’s first 2024 NBA Mock Draft has the Spurs, with a pick they acquired from Toronto, selecting Duke combo guard Caleb Foster with the No. 11 overall pick. A 6-4 guard who can score and shoot with ease, Foster seems like a perfect Fred VanVleet replacement.
Foster profiles as the type of ball-dominant scorer that Toronto lost when VanVleet walked out the door. If the Raptors crash out of the play-in tournament once again, watching Foster in Spurs colors could really sting.

More Raptors news
- Bleacher Report put Toronto on their list of the teams who had the worst offseasons in 2023. Unsurprisingly, they were critical of losing Fred VanVleet in free agency for nothing while refusing to rebuild properly.
- Former Raptors star and current Miami Heat point guard Kyle Lowry was spotted attending the Colorado-Colorado State football game with Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups.
- While Billups is a Buffaloes alum, and Lowry could have easily struck up a friendship when the two were both players, the timing of this (and the fact Billups left the shot when he was on TV) is interesting due to the Damian Lillard rumors that could end up with Lowry being flipped over to Portland.
NBA news
- The latest rumblings from Adrian Wojnarowski claim the Blazers have had more discussions with the Heat about a Lillard trade in the last week, which is getting some fans hyped up for the possibility of the long-awaited trade finally coming to fruition.
- The HBO series Winning Time, which chronicled the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers’ Magic Johnson-led dynasty in the 1980s, has been canceled after two seasons. While this show could be saved by another network, it may conclude with Boston winning a title at the end of Season 2.
Will a Lillard trade involving Lowry go down?
