The Raptors believe that Dick, who could be the only first-rounder Toronto has in a three-year span after parting with draft capital in 2022 and 2024, will be such a focal point of the team’s Rajakovic-led rebuild that they were adamant about picking him over a point guard.

Dick fell to No. 13 overall despite a terrific season at Kansas, likely because he is a limited defensive player who needs to add weight and strength. In a perfect scenario, Dick will show the team and his teammates that the concerns about his stature are exaggerated.

Gradey Dick could become a star for the Toronto Raptors.

If Dick is out there being a pest on the defensive side and a more creative offensive player against NBA defenders than one expected, it will be almost impossible for Rajakoivic to bring him along slowly. Why not throw him into the fire early on?

Dick appears to be one of the more high-floor players in this class, as his shooting could help him become a role player on a team with eyes on some silverware. A strong training camp before his rookie year could set the stage for Dick unleashing hell on opposing defenders.
