Option 2: The Dennis Schroder Attack

PG: Dennis Schroder

SG: OG Anunoby

SF: Scottie Barnes

PF: Pascal Siakam

C: Jakob Poeltl

The Raptors may value Trent enough to the point they want to hand him a lucrative contract extension, and they certainly are committed to Barnes, but it will be very difficult for Toronto to keep Schroder out of the starting lineup if they desire a more traditional approach at the point guard spot.

Schroder will score, pass, and defend at an above-average level, all while keeping Barnes in a forward role that he has more experience and comfort with at this level. Anunoby at the 2-guard in certain lineups could be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Dennis Schroder could start for the Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors could lean on a second unit that consists of Barnes running point, Trent as the primary scorer, and Gradey Dick in a prominent role as a shooter. The Raptors’ bench was a mess last year, and this move could help cover up for their deficiencies.

Toronto signed Schroder not to be a like-for-like VanVleet replacement, but to give a burst of veteran consistency and leadership to a young team that lacked both of those traits last season. This lineup might help this team get the most out of their new addition.
