A while back, I mentioned in a piece how the Orlando Magic found a fitting addition to their roster in former Raptors center, Orlando Robinson. Given his name, it was an ironically fitting match for a guy I was genuinely impressed by during his brief stint with the Raptors. However, ultimately, the organization didn’t see Robinson as part of their long-term plans, so I was glad to see another NBA team give him a genuine chance to prove himself.

Fast forward to the late stages of the NBA offseason, and once again, we're hearing about Orlando signing a recent Raptors backup frontcourt player. This time, the Magic inked 25-year-old center Colin Castleton to a deal earlier this afternoon, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on X.

Castleton signed a non-guaranteed two-year standard NBA contract with the Toronto Raptors in mid-April. Castleton's sample size with the Raptors was modest and not particularly out-of-this-world, but he still posted some solid numbers: 11 total games played, four starts, 50% field goal percentage, 7.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

However, I had predicted that, with the team approaching this offseason close to full capacity, the ex-Michigan and ex-Florida big man would likely be among the first to be waived if a spot needed to be cleared. And sure enough, in late July, the Raptors announced they would be waiving Castleton.

Orlando Magic beat reporter Jason Beede announced on X that the Castleton deal is for an Exhibit 10 contract, meaning the 25-year-old center isn’t guaranteed a spot on the Magic’s final main roster before the new season gets underway.

However, as is typical with Exhibit 10 deals, Castleton could still find his way to the Osceola Magic — either as a two-way player or by signing directly with the G-League affiliate — and work his way up from there.
