Javon Freeman-Liberty was a dud

In the Raptors' loss to the Utah Jazz it was guard Javon Freeman-Liberty who kept the team afloat, the only player in double figures as he dropped 24 points in the midst of the loss. On Friday night whatever magic the young guard tapped into was all used up and he came crashing back to earth.

Freeman-Liberty shot just 2-for-10 from the field and 1-for-4 from 3-point range, and even more concerningly didn't draw a single free throw. His single assist as an on-ball guard was doubled-up by his two turnovers, and he offered little resistance as a defender. Every minute counts for him as he tries to prove himself worthy of a roster spot and his 14 minutes on Friday were a disaster.

Ulrich Chomche was a dud

Drafting a raw big man prospect like Ulrich Chomche is about the future, not the present, and no one on the Raptors or anywhere else expected Chomche to come into Summer League and dominate. It was all about the flashes, and to his credit he has shown some of those as a finisher, rebounder and even playmaking.

Those flashes were not present against the Miami Heat, and Chomche was absolutely punked by the Miami big men. He managed just four rebounds in his 20 minutes and racked up a whopping five turnovers to go with six fouls. He was out of position again and again and couldn't match the speed of the game, and on offense he was an outright mess. There will be brighter days ahead, but Friday showed the length of the road to be walked.
