1 Stud and 4 Duds from Raptors Summer League embarrassment vs Heat
Ja'Kobe Walter was a stud
Finding a player to highlight in the demoralizing loss was a difficult task; Jamison Battle went 3-for-4 from deep, to his credit, and may get a look on a two-way contract later in the season from a team. Of more consequence to the Raptors, however, is that Ja'Kobe Walter was able to get his offensive game going more so than in previous games.
After glacially-cold shooting performances previously in the desert, Walter shot 3-for-7 from deep (43 percent) and scored a team-high 16 points. He continued to draw fouls as well, hitting all three of his free-throws. He couldn't record a single assists and was also a team-worst -28 on the night (in part due to playing 22 minutes, most on the team) but he showed off some of the ability that attracted the Raptors to him in the NBA Draft last month.
Ochai Agbaji was a dud
The final entrant on our list is the third-year lottery pick on the roster; that type of player should never be playing in Las Vegas Summer League. For Agbaji to be on the roster is an indictment on his development thus far as an NBA player, and for him not to be one of the best players on the court is only driving that point home.
Agbaji did very little to suggest he's poised to take a step forward next season, shooting 0-for-5 and 0-for-3 from deep en route to a 2-point night. The former Kansas star averaged just six points per game in his four Vegas appearances, shooting a positively painful 14.3 percent from deep and matching six assists with six turnovers.
This terrible performance may have been the nail in the coffin for Toronto picking up his fourth-year team option for 2025-26, and something drastic will need to change for him to be a rotation player next year. Agbaji's career is slipping away, and Friday night was just one more piece of damning evidence.
