3 Burning questions we hope the Toronto Raptors answer at media day
No. 2: What's going on with Bruce Brown?
This is a combination of three questions burning right through the summer. First, why didn't the Raptors trade Brown earlier in the offseason? Secondly, why did Brown wait so long to get surgery on his knee if the injury dated back to last season?
And finally, given the above two questions, why did the Raptors pick up Brown's lucrative $23 million team option for this season?
The reporting in late June when the Raptors exercised the option and decided to punt on using cap space in order to retain Brown was that they would be bringing him back in order to trade him. Did they truly not have a trade already lined up when they made that move? Or did something happen where a trade fell through?
If the reason they couldn't trade Brown was that he wouldn't pass the physical, the Raptors should not have picked up his team option. They could have still brought him back at a lower number, but they are paying through the nose for a player who doesn't have a future with the team and cannot be traded.
Now it appears he won't even be available to help them win basketball games to start the season. Did the Raptors' team doctors make a mistake in their rehabilitation recommendation? Did Brown obscure his progress until the last minute? Plenty of questions swirl around Bruce Brown and the Raptors concerning his upsetting situation.
