3 Teams that could steal Immanuel Quickley away from Raptors this offseason
No. 2: San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are early enough in their rebuild that they don't need to start pushing all of their chips in and start climbing up the standings, but Victor Wembanyama is so good right now they may not have a choice. The Defensive Player of the Year runner-up as a rookie, it would be something of an upset if he was not an All-NBA player as early as next season.
The one area of need that rises above the others is a dynamic offensive guard, ideally a pure point guard who can run the offense and get Wembanyama the ball in advantageous situations. Tre Jones is a steady hand but lacks the shot creation upside to truly leverage Wembanyama's gravity and help the Spurs' offense ascend to the next level.
Immanuel Quickley would be a shrewd addition for the Spurs, a player with a burgeoning offensive game who can both create his own shot and play off of Wembanyama, both as a spot-up shooter and attacking the paint when the defense is in rotation trying to prevent all of France dunking on their heads.
The Spurs can easily get to maximum cap space this summer, and unlikely most teams can afford to wait out the two-day restricted free agent matching period. If the Raptors match their offer, they can pivot to the trade market to add a point guard. They should be viewed as a legitimate threat to get Quickley to sign an offer sheet.
