No. 1: Gary Trent Jr.
The Portland Trail Blazers found a second-round gem in Gary Trent Jr. and swapped him to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Norman Powell. Since then, Trent has vacillated between the bench and the starting lineup, always the fourth - sixth option for the team as a reliable 3-and-D shooting guard.
It appeared that Trent was likely to walk in free agency last summer, but instead he exercised his player option to stick around one more season, evidently hoping for a larger payday this time around.
If the Raptors were going to bring him back they likely would have worked out a contract last offseason, and it doesn't make much sense for them to invest long-term in Trent as they go through a rebuild where cap space will be valuable, and at a position where they have added two young players in the last year in Gradey Dick and Ochai Agbaji.
Trent has had a lot of space to work with the past few months as injuries have piled up and he has increased his scoring numbers, which may be the momentum he needs to find a long-term deal. If not, he may sign a one-year deal and try to "prove it" again, but this time it won't be on the Toronto Raptors.
