Zero: D.J. Carton
If Javon Freeman-Liberty went from a bad game to a good one, the reverse was true for two-way guard D.J. Carton. He and Freeman-Liberty are likely fighting for the same role of "emergency guard" and it's unlikely Toronto keeps them both.
Carton did not cover himself in glory against the Nuggets, shooting 3-for-10 from the field overall and 0-for-4 from 3-point range. He did have a pick-6 play in the second half, stealing the ball and taking it the length of the court for a dunk. Otherwise, his offensive game was largely ineffective.
Hero: Jamison Battle
The first player off the bench for the Raptors was Jamison Battle, a former Ohio State forward trying to find a place in the NBA after going undrafted. He's not a future star, but rather is trying to prove himself as a 3-and-D role player worth having around.
Sunday night was his best audition tape yet, as his combination of energy and shooting helped to keep the Raptors in the game during the first half and was crucial to their run to take the lead in the second. Battle shot 4-of-6 from the field and a cool 3-for-5 from deep, and he otherwise played solid defense and was a game-high +16 on the night.
