The Toronto Raptors got to a place that most teams arrive at in the final days of Las Vegas Summer League. Whether due to injury or to see more from bench players, many of their best players were not in the lineup for the finale against the San Antonio Spurs.

Gradey Dick and Jonathan Mogbo missed the game nursing injuries, while Ochai Agbaji and Javon Freeman-Liberty sat after high-minute roles in previous games. Their foe, the Spurs, likewise sat a number of players, opening up the contest for the rest of the Summer League roster to see the court.

The result was somewhat chaotic and ultimately lopsided toward the Spurs. The Raptors got out to a 13-2 start, and after battling back the second unit then gave up a 17-0 run which put the Spurs in control. A late push got them within striking distance in the fourth, but ultimately it was too little, too late. The Raptors lost 100-89 to finish Summer League play at 2-3.

Let's break down who stood out from the final contest in the desert, the last competitive Raptors basketball until the preseason kicks off in 2.5 months. Which players performed well, and what aspects of the team were complete zeroes?

Jamal Shead was a hero

It was an up-and-down two weeks in Vegas for second-round pick Jamal Shead, but he certainly ended things with a bang. In a starting lineup stripped of its high-usage players he was given room to run, and he responded with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.

That included a number of drives into the teeth of the distance, and his burst allowed him to beat the shot-blockers to the rim and finish. He also followed one midrange miss and tipped it in himself. He totaled six assists running the offense and added a steal and block as well.

In the contest between Shead and Davion Mitchell for the backup point guard spot, Shead notched himself a point.
