Latest projections suggest a Raptors free agent is on track to be a star

The Toronto Raptors showed out well in ESPN's latest statistical projections for 2024 free agents, and one player is set to become a star.

Another Raptor makes the list

Interestingly enough, Immanuel Quickley was not the only Raptors guard to make the list of the Top 20 free agents. Gary Trent Jr., an unrestricted free agent after playing out his player option this past season, checked in at 13th on the list.

Pelton points out that Trent's production sinking this past year wasn't a result of a decline in Trent's ability, just a bad year, and that at age 25 he is a shrewd bounce-back candidate for next year and therefore a buy-low opportunity on the market.

A few former Raptors also show up on the list. Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby check in at 7th and 8th on the list respectively. It's somewhat jarring to think that the Raptors got back Quickley, RJ Barrett and a pick for Anunoby, and Quickley alone is projected to nearly double Anunoby's impact over the next few years.

That's clearly a place where the projection model needs to be balanced with that subjective element. Anunoby's impact isn't fully measured by the box score, and he was undoubtedly a crucial player for the Knicks after the trade. Similarly, while Siakam is expected to decline as he ages into his 30s, he is a really good player right now and helped propel the Indiana Pacers into the Eastern Conference Finals.

Even if the model is a little off, it's not crazy to think that Immanuel Quickley will be the best of them all - and that is something that should excite Toronto Raptors fans as they look to the future with this team.
