Power Rankings: Where Immanuel Quickley lands among NBA’s Top 30 point guards
Tier 2: Superstars
5. Tyrese Haliburton, Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers struck gold when they moved off of the definition of an empty calories player in Domantas Sabonis and in return got Tyrese Haliburton, a long and fast point guard who was a genuine MVP candidate to start last season before getting hurt.
Haliburton never seemed to get truly healthy last year, but he returned and help to lead the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals. He is fast and an incredible passer, and combined with his pull-up shooting and touch around the basket defenses are at their limit trying to defend him. Playing in the Pacers' up-tempo style he is allowed to truly shine.
4. Jalen Brunson, Dallas Mavericks
If Haliburton was an MVP candidate at the start of the season, Jalen Brunson became one by the end, finishing fifth in voting and making the All-NBA Second Team. Brunson has steadily improved as a scorer and playmaker and he carried the New York Knicks' offense down the stretch of the season and to the seventh game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Brunson's ability to get his shot off -- and for it to go in -- is truly special, and the Knicks have built their entire roster around him as the centerpiece. His growth has been step by step over the course of his career and looks entirely sustainable. Is he good enough to be the best offensive player on a title team? That remains to be seen, but the fact that it's a conversation at all speaks to his elite level of play.
