Tier 1: MVPs

3. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

Stephen Curry still belongs in this top tier, a weapon unlike any in NBA history with his shooting and scoring. He showed in the Paris Olympics what he is still capable of, catching fire to save Team USA in the semifinals before slamming the door shut in the gold medal match to win his first Olympic medal.

In the NBA, Curry is 36 years old but still was the centerpiece of a 46-win team last year, and he is still able to drive offense and break NBA defenses. At some point he'll take another step down, but for now he's still a Top 10 player in the league.

2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City Thunder

As Curry hung onto his spot near the top of the league, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fully broke into his, finishing second in MVP voting. His unique rhythm as a ball-handler lets him snake his way to any spot on the court, and he is equally confident pulling up in the midrange as he is euro-stepping around a defender to finish at the rim. His quick hands on defense generate a plethora of transition opportunities going the other way, and he is a dynamic finisher in the open court. He has a legitimate case for being the best player in the league sometime in the next few seasons.

1. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

The No. 1 point guard in the league is Luka Doncic, the heliocentric star of the Dallas Mavericks who stepped into the league from day one as an All-Star level player and has had an historic run, finishing on the All-NBA First Team for five straight seasons.

His shot-making and passing make him an unstoppable force, and he led the Mavericks all the way to the NBA Finals this season. He is not a truly elite shooter, and defensively he is inconsistent, but overall he is one of the very best players in the entire league and beats out SGA and Curry as the best point guard in the NBA.
