Tier 5: Fringe Stars

21. Immanuel Quickley, Toronto Raptors

We now find the star of the show, the Raptors' new starting point guard Immanuel Quickley. On the one hand, 21st seems like a low ranking for a player who just secured a $162.5 million contract. On the other, the players to come are true franchise players or championship winning guards (with two exceptions directly following), and Quickley has never played an entire seaosn as a starting point guard.

What Quickley has going for him is that he has few weaknesses. He is an underrated defender, with quick hands and excellent lateral movement; he's not large, but he competes and can break up plays by generating a steal.

On offense he is a knockdown shooter, comfortable as a catch-and-shoot option or generating a shot himself. He doesn't have elite burst to the rim but he is overall quick and can work to his spots. He was an extremely efficient scorer in a smaller role with the Knicks, and he translated that into a larger role in the 38 games he player in Toronto.

At age 25 and with the starting point guard spot his for the foreseeable future, Quickley will hope to move up these rankings and prove himself a viable All-Star candidate. It's very possible he caps out as a Top-20 point guard, which is fine but will be a disappointment for Toronto. It's also possible he takes another step forward and helps to propel the Raptors as their No. 2 option.
