Ranking all 15 Toronto Raptors players by trade value
Some NBA teams are in a large amount of flux, with potential trades in the works for any number of their players - for example, who on the Golden State Warriors is safe other than Stephen Curry? Others are more set, such as the Minnesota Timberwolves who have exhausted every asset available to them.
The Toronto Raptors lie somewhere in the middle, with low amounts of pressure on this season and a young core the franchise wants to see together, but also veterans who are not crucial to the future and who could be on the move.
If the Raptors are going to engage in any trade discussions, however, they need to have a healthy understanding of how the rest of the league views their players. Picking up the phone and offering Garrett Temple for Chet Holmgren will get them laughed at, but at the same time, trading Immanuel Quickley for Ben Simmons will destroy their future.
With that in mind, let's rank all 15 players on the roster by trade value, starting with the lowest and ending with the franchise's stars.
Group 1: Take 'em off my hands
Chris Boucher, Garrett Temple, Bruno Fernando
Only one player on the Toronto Raptors could be said to have negative trade value, and that is Chris Boucher. He is clearly overpaid on his $10.8 million deal for this season, and when you combine his age (31), declining level of play and recent knee injury, his value to another team is quite low. The Raptors would need to attach an asset to his deal to move him.
For Garrett Temple and Bruno Fernando, however, they make so little that they aren't "negative" value, per se, but merely not of any value whatsoever. Both are the definition of replacement level. If a little extra money was required for salary matching in a deal the Raptors could toss them in, or just as easily waive them to clear a roster spot.
