Ballroom Basketball
Las Vegas Summer League is a significant event in the NBA calendar. It is real basketball being played in the middle of the summer, which is exciting for fans, and teams get the opportunity to see recent draft picks and potential end-of-roster players in actual competitive settings.
It's also an important setting for transactions to be worked out between teams, as the front offices for all 30 teams are in one place and bumping into each other in the arenas or at restaurants. Historically, a number of deals have been hammered out in Las Vegas, and the NBA is waiting with bated breath to see what might come out of his year.
Finally, however, Vegas Summer League is significant because it often draws players together from the main roster, stars and starters who aren't playing in Summer League but show up because they like being in Las Vegas. They get to support their teammates, enjoy the town, and even get a run in together or participate in some practices.
To support this part of the week, the Toronto Raptors have constructed two entire courts in a ballroom at the Wynn in Vegas. It has allowed them to run practices and pickup games with their players, as well as host a workout of players trying to get back into the league that other teams attended.
Here is a picture of the courts:
