No. 2: Gradey Dick

The Toronto Raptors likely haven't sorted who they are starting at shooting guard when the season begins. Bruce Brown is the obvious veteran answer even if he doesn't fit well with the other starters. The best choice, if the Raptors can stomach sitting Brown for a second-year player, is Gradey Dick.

The former Kansas wing is right there with Kelly Olynyk and Immanuel Quickley as the best shooter on the roster, and the Raptors desperately need shooting as they start Jakob Poeltl and Scottie Barnes in the frontcourt. He also brings good size at 6'6" and showed an improved on-ball game at Summer League.

The reality is that Gradey Dick is still growing as a player, which means that if he arguably has a case to start on day one of the season, by the end of the year he should be a shoo-in. That makes him a starter on a team that should at least be competitive, and potentially will be in the Play-In part of the standings, and all for a bargain amount.

The Raptors will pay Dick just $4.7 million this season, the second year of his rookie-scale contract. That amounts to 3.39% of the salary cap. Brown makes roughly five times that amount. That salary is a fine enough amount to play a developmental project, but it looks like the Raptors can rely on Gradey Dick to play a major role this season, and they won't have to pay a major price to him to do it.
