Three prospects the Toronto Raptors should trade up for in the 2024 NBA Draft
By Cyrus Akbari
Alexandre Sarr - Center (Perth Wildcats)
Given his premium draft stock, this may be the hardest of the three players to acquire, but Alexandre Sarr fits a lot of what the Raptors are looking for. To put it in the simplest of terms, the Frenchman plays like a wing but can size up with the best of them towering at 7'1" – sound familiar?
His first-year stats in the NBL aren’t necessarily eye-popping (9.3 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 0.9 APG) but once Sarr checks into the game it doesn’t take long to understand why he’s arguably the best prospect in this draft. With a 7’4” wingspan, Sarr has incredible footwork for a big man and is a great ball handler which allows him to spread the floor. In limited playing time, Sarr averaged 1.5 BPG and could turn into a top NBA defender due to his explosiveness and size.
With an offensive skill set that is still raw, most scouts don’t expect Sarr to jump out the gates as the number one option on a team. If the Raptors are able to put together a package to acquire Sarr, it would not only bring back premium rim protection in the backcourt but also align with the organisation's timeline to help Sarr develop at his own pace, with Jakob Poeltl under contract for the next two seasons.
