5 Wild trades for Raptors to flip Bruce Brown into a star this summer

1. Raptors get a superstar
The last time Masai Ujiri traded for a superstar on an expiring contract, the Raptors won the championship. It was a bold move as Kawhi Leonard lasted just one season in Toronto. Ujiri is not afraid to get uncomfortable and a similar situation could be brewing in Cleveland.
The Cavaliers cannot allow Donovan Mitchell to reach free agency. He has one season plus a player option remaining on his deal. Cleveland will offer a maximum extension this summer. If he declines, the five-time All-Star will be on the trade block. He won’t come cheap, but teams will be looking for assurances he stays long-term.
The Raptors might not get them, and they may not care. Masai may believe he can convince Mitchell to stay if he comes to Toronto and makes the team a contender. It will be costly, but they might just make this type of move.
Mitchell is one of the world’s best scorers and shot-creators. He will raise his game in the playoffs and could quickly get Toronto back into contention. The Raptors cannot trade three first-round picks for one year of Mitchell, but they would likely offer more with the assurance he signs a long-term deal.
Bruce Brown’s contract will be in trade rumors, but what can the Toronto Raptors get in return? It is a story worth watching. Trading him for a star will make the Pascal Siakam deal look better and could have the Raptors back into contention quickly, so stay tuned.
